I am available on a freelance basis in the UK (preferrable locations London or Manchester) for medium / long term freelance contracts on the premises of commerical organisations. I have worked in the IT industry for over 31 years, primarily on a freelance basis. My clients have been many and varied, but principally blue chip national and multi-national companies. These include UBS Swiss Bank, BBC, National Westminster Bank, Sainsburys, AXA Insurance, Marks and Spencer, BAA, Department of Health and ICL.
Over the years my position has changed, so I am a truly multi-faceted professional. My career path has been Programmer->Analyst->System Administrator->Team Leader->Project Manager->Programme Manager->Department Manager->Dot Com Entrepreneur.
As an example of my work for any prospective employer, please take a look at calsync - my very own sports fixtures and calendaring website. As an avid sports fan, I was frustrated at the lack of sports calendaring websites on the Internet. If, say England, had an important game coming up in a week's time, I wanted to be able to automatically put that fixture in my electronic diary thus preventing a double booking. It would be great to politely decline that dinner party because I had already checked my diary and discovered Liverpool were playing in the cup that evening. And so was born Calsync, a sports calendaring and fixtures and TV listings website.
Development of the website took 9 months of 12 hour days / 7 day weeks. It was truly a labour of love, but the result is something I am proud of. Copyright restrictions prevented me from providing the Premier League and Football League fixtures, but I can still show when their games are televised. Other sporting calendars available include non-league (great if you are a committed Barrow AFC fan like myself!), tennis, cricket, rugby, and motorsport. In fact, there are over 15000 sporting events in my database, and it is updated daily.
Calsync is not currently hosted at www.calsync.co.uk due to high hosting costs and the significant bandwidth it uses delivering top quality data to the masses. However, it is still available on a showreel basis by clicking on the link above. Please note that because of the high cost of bandwidth, it is not possible to run the website 24/7 any more. It is usually available during UK office hours. Also, because I am not availale to spend 8 hours a day maintaining the site, the data now lacks a little fidelity and detailed resolution, but it should give you an idea as to what I can achieve.
